Welcome
to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Web site. We are
pleased that you are interested in our department. You have chosen
and excellent private university to attend, to prepare for one of the top career fields
in the
world. We are confident you will find that the ECE program
at Florida
Institute of Technology is among the best. Florida Tech is
a great place
to study and the F. W. Olin Engineering Complex provides an
outstanding
learning environment. This state-of-the art facility reflects
Florida
Tech's commitment to academic excellence and cutting-edge programs
that
will prepare you for a rewarding career.
Florida Tech was founded
in 1958 in Melbourne, Florida. The area offers
a delightful year-round subtropical climate and inviting
ocean beaches.
The Kennedy Space Center and Walt Disney World in Orlando
are within an
hour's drive of Melbourne. The university's location on Florida's
Space
Coast gives it a unique place in the academic world. Corporations
whose
scientist and engineers are making tomorrow's technological
breakthroughs for the U.S. space program surround the area.
Their
proximity allows easy interaction between their efforts and
the
university community. A major component of our department
involves "hands-on" learning. We have integrated
the laboratory experience into
many of your classes. We want you to be assured that you
will not only "know" the material critical to engineering,
but also that you will be
able to demonstrate mastery of the material when you graduate.
Our
faculty consists of excellent educators with national and
international
reputations in Neural Networks, Multimedia Communication,
Fiber Optic
Sensors, Signal and Image Processing and most recently electric energy system planning and operation. Many of our faculty are authors of the textbooks used not only here at Florida Tech, but around the world. We even have an author of an e-book, a fiction thriller demonstrating the broad compatibilities and interest of our faculty.
- The ECE Department hast two fellows of the IEEE on its faculty, Profs. Robert L. Sullivan and Chang Wen Chen. In January 2005, Prof. Chen was elected an IEEE Fellow
for contributions to digital image and video processing,
analysis and
communication. Dr. Sullivan was elected to IEEE Fellow in 1994 for his contributions of electrical engineering education. He became a Life Fellow of the IEEE in 2006. Each year, following a rigorous evaluation
procedure, the
IEEE Fellow Committee recommends a select group of recipients
for one of
the Institute's most prestigious honors, election to IEEE
Fellow.
- Dr. Chen is the Editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology.
- Dr. Ham is the Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions
on
Neural Networks, and the current President of the International
Neural Network
Society.
- Dr. Kozaitis is on the Technical Committee on Pattern
Recognition of the International Association of Science
and Technology
Development and on the Industrial Advisory Board of the Journal of Engineering Research. He was the session chairman of the IASTED conference on Signal Processing, Pattern recognition, and Applications in Innsbruck, Austria and he serves as the faculty adviser for the
FL Z chapter of Tau
Beta Pi's National Honor Society.
- This is an exciting time at Florida Tech. Keep in mind:
- Florida Tech has small classes
with personalized attention
- We have established
an environment where your success is also
our success, and
- Getting accepted is only the beginning,
many challenges lie
ahead for you
Sincerely,
University Professor and, Department Head
