American Meteorology Society Student Chapter

AMSThe American Meteorological Society sponsors student chapters at meteorology schools throughout the country. The Florida Tech American Meteorology Society Student Chapter (FITSCAMS) is an academic organization consisting mostly of Florida Tech Meteorology, Aviation Meteorology, and Environmental Science majors. The group does, however, also include students from majors ranging from Oceanography to Computer Science, and as well as Biology and Physics from time to time.

Advantages to becoming a member

Becoming a member of the group at is a great opportunity for incoming and current students. FITSCAMS strives to promote academics by coordinating tutoring sessions for its students. FITSCAMS also strives to create a fun atmosphere that encourages students to interact with others in their major and related fields. Members of the Florida Tech American Meteorology Society Student Chapter also have access to the wealth of knowledge that resides with its upperclassmen -- who can provide valuable insight on what classes to take and with what professors, as well as how to manage time wisely. FITSCAMS tours the National Weather Service Station here in Melbourne, and has sponsored trips to the National Hurricane Center in Miami and WFTV in Orlando to encourage students to look at all opportunities in meteorology.
