| Guidelines for Applicants

1. The applicant must be a full-time student in an established Ph.D.
program at an academic institution in the United States or Canada. The
applicant must be admitted to candidacy and ready to start work on
doctoral research on or before the project commencement date.

2. The application must contain (see details below): Cover Page;
Description of Project; Letters of Endorsement; Letters of
Recommendation; Objectives, Timeline, and Budget Summary; Current
Resume.

3. The award consists of a grant of $25,000. The student will be
awarded a stipend of $21,500 for the fellowship year; $2,500 for
authorized expenses associated with the research (supplies, small
equipment, computing charge, etc.); and $1,000 publication costs
for research results. Excluded charges: labor/salary of staff, and
pooled or overhead charges. The proposal must include detail for the
expenditure of the $25,000.

4. The successful applicants will be required to submit a written
research report documenting the work carried out during the fellowship
year, which is due by September.
