Teaching Assistantship

Description

Applicants are primarily selected based on their GPA, TOEFL score, GRE score, and recommendations. Although a GRE score is not required, it is highly recommended for those seeking assistantships. Teaching assistants are required to have a TOEFL score of greater than 600. Teaching assistants are also required to take a weeklong seminar, before classes begin, and demonstrate teaching proficiency after completing the seminar.

Availability

The department hires anywhere from 1 to 3 teaching assistants every year .Research assistantships are typically not given to new students; therefore, those accepted to the Civil Engineering Graduate Program are encouraged to attend school for one semester using their personal finances. A good academic showing for one semester greatly, along with the ability to communicate, improves the possibility of receiving a research assistantship or even a teaching assistantship if an opening arises.
