Florida Tech Professor Honored by Colleagues, Students

March 09, 2005

Florida Tech's Department of Civil Engineering honored Associate Dean of Academics for the College of Engineering, Edward H. Kalajian, Ph.D. P.E., recently. He was recognized for his years of dedicated service and commitment. Alumni, faculty, staff, and students gathered recently at the 2005 meeting of the Civil Engineering Advisory Committee (CEAC) to make the first CEAC Outstanding Service Award to Kalajian. The plaque was presented by Mr. Herb Raybourn, chair of the CEAC.

With over 30 years of academic experience, Kalajian directs the General Engineering program at the university. He teaches a graduate course in geotechnical engineering and undergraduate courses in soil mechanics and foundations, materials, and an introduction to engineering course for freshman students.

Kalajian is a registered professional engineer in Florida with expertise in soil mechanics, foundation design, concrete materials, waterfront construction and waste stabilization. He is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society for Engineering Education, Chi Epsilon, the national civil engineering honor society, and is faculty advisor to Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society.

"His leadership has been instrumental in establishing a first-rate Department of Civil Engineering at the university and fostering a spirit of community among the alumni, faculty, staff, and students," said Dr. Ashok Pandit, professor of civil engineering.
