Florida Tech Students and Black Racer Take Third Place

April 05, 2004

Florida Tech students and their 2004 concrete canoe, named Black Racer, came in third place overall in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Southeast Regional Competition. It was held recently in Tampa, Fla.

ASCE student chapter president and canoe captain, Carl Sandin, led 18 civil engineering students who competed in six events and placed in three. The students designed, built, displayed and raced their 2004 canoe, the 21-foot, 190-pound Black Racer. Dr. Paul Cosentino, associate professor of civil engineering, is the faculty advisor.

The student chapter participates annually in the regional event.

Florida Tech offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in civil engineering.
