Name

 


The name of this chapter association shall be the American Society of Civil Engineers (Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers).

Objectives

 


The objectives of this American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter shall be the advancement of the science and profession of engineering by encouraging the development of student's professional consciousness, providing an opportunity for engineering students to become acquainted and practice working together effectively; promoting a spirit of unity among them; and by exposing students to the field of engineering.

Membership

 


Eligible members of this chapter shall be students enrolled in the Department of Civil Engineering or any other Engineering discipline. Applicants for memberships are accepted upon payment of chapter dues.

Officers

 
  • The officers of this chapter shall be: President, Vice-President in charge of trips, Vice-President in charge of speakers, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian and Committee Chairs(4).

  • The President shall be a member of the Senior of Junior class, upon assuming office. The Vice-President shall be a member of the Senior, Junior or Sophomore class, upon assuming office.

  • The Secretary, Treasurer, Historian and Committee Chairs shall be a member of the Senior, Junior, Sophomore or Freshman class, upon assuming office.

  • Nominations may be made by an active member during the meetings at which the elections are held. Officers shall hold office until their successors are duly elected and qualified. Officers shall be elected by secret ballot or by majarity vote. If no election is held, active members can volunteer for each position. The ballots to be distributed to and collected from the Active members. For each office the candidate receiving the highest number of votes shall be declared elected.

  • Election of new Chapter Officers shall take place during first two weeks of the Spring Semester to successfully train next year's officers.

Duties of Officers

 
  • The President shall preside at all meetings of the Chapter and shall perform such other duties as are incumbent on such an office. The President shall appoint and organize the participation of members in each of the Student Committees.

  • The Senior Vice-President shall assist the President and shall assume the duties of the President when the latter is in any way unable to discharge the duties of office. The Vice-President shall actively participate in chapter activities and assume responsibilities as appointed by the President. Additionally, the Senior Vice-President shall assume all responsibilities associated with travel to all functions.

  • The Junior Vice-President shall assist the President and the Senior Vice-President and shall assume the duties of the President when the latter in any way unable to discharge the duties of office. The Vice-President shall actively participate in chapter activities and assume responsibilities as appointed by the President. Additionally, the Junior Vice-President shall assume all responsibilities associated with scheduling speakers.

  • The Secretary shall keep a record of all transactions of the chapter and shall, with the assistance of a committee appointed for the purpose, attend to all notification of meetings, keep roll of all members, and prepare and submit annual report of the Chapter to the ASCE.

  • The Treasurer shall take charge of all funds belonging to the Chapter, be responsible for their proper disbursement, and present an accurate account at each meeting. The fiscal year of the chapter shall begin on the sfirst day of Fall Semester.

  • The Historian superseeds and upgrades historical data and archives.

Chapter Meetings

 


The regular chapter meetings shall be held on any day and at least bi-monthly. Meetings are open to all university students and faculty.

Chapter Dues

 


The annual dues of the ASCE student and national chapter shall be $10. This fees entitles members to full membership privileges for one year, and are payable by a date designated by the chapter officers. The officers may elect to charge late fees in the amount of $2.00.

The following shall be standing committees of the chapter.

  • Concrete Canoe Committee

  • General Activities Committee

  • Fund Raising Committee

  • Regional Competitions Committee

Amendments

 


An Amendment to this constitution may be proposed by presenting to the chapter secretary a petition stating the desired amendment and containing the signature of thirty percent of the active members of the chapter. This petition shall be read at the next regular meeting. An eighty-percent favourable vote of the active membership of the chapter shall be required for adoption.
