Construction Industry Advisory Board (CIAB)

Mission

The mission of the Construction Industry Advisory Board is to help Florida Tech develop its construction program in the following ways:

  • Generate excitement among area students about the construction industry, and attract them to the industry.
  • Develop an outstanding construction management/engineering program that would prepare students for rewarding life-long careers.
  • Offer short courses, seminars, and panel discussions on relevant construction industry topics to practicing engineers and managers so they can remain skillful and competitive.
  • Create programs and scholarships to encourage the best students to enroll in construction management.

Specific goals for the CIAB include helping Florida Tech to extend it's influence beyond the 4-year engineering curriculum into the realm of pofessional development for practicing engineers and managers. In addition to providing professional development, this series is intended to provide certification credits required for construction professionals to maintain their respectives licenses and to continuously improve the body of knowledge in practice.

In addition, the CIAB is intended to create a hiring pool of new civil engineering graduates with a background in construction management for the expanding Florida construction industry.

Finally, the group conducts summer camps for middle school children to stimulate a long-term interest in the construcion industry and thereby to increase the pool of entrants to the construction profession.
